History of the ALTRA brand
The American brand Altra was born from the vision and determination of two young athletes, Jeremy Howlett and Golden Harper. They began by identifying the technical shortcomings and lack of innovation in existing running shoe models. By making targeted improvements, they pursued a clear objective: creating footwear that delivers maximum comfort and consistent performance.
Among the issues they identified were the excessive heel-to-toe drop and the restrictive fit of traditional toe boxes. This led them to develop shoes built around a minimal drop and a wider toe box, allowing the toes to spread naturally and preventing uncomfortable compression. Their now-signature Zero Drop platform was designed to eliminate the height difference between the heel and forefoot. While this concept may have seemed unconventional at first, it ultimately provides a more natural running experience and exceptional comfort.
